Casa Barlavento is a fantastic 3 bed villa with its own Private pool and Air Conditioning ( heat in winter) in a very private part of the Prainha complex. Prainha is a large resort offering a huge variety of things to do in a safe and secure environment ( 24 hour security on site and some roads with gated access including ours ) . Prainha itself is open April until the end of October and offers 3 separate communal pools around the complex including some large toddler pools, two playgrounds, three tennis courts and a football and basket ball pitch ( small charge for courts ) . One of the pools guests get free admittance too is the Atlantic pool which is built on a cliff edge and has stunning views over the Atlantic. ( charge for beds if required).
Prainha itself is a huge area of gardens and private walk ways with a hotel at its centre ( Prainha Clube - open Summer only ) and then privately owned villas dotted around the gardens. The beauty of Prainha is that you don't have to drive anywhere, three beaches are 5 minutes walk away from our house which is one of the best locations in the hole resort, which also gives you access to over 5 fantastic beach restaurants. If you don't fancy the beach , laze around your private pool in the villa gardens ( loungers , chairs , sofas and outdoor dining table all supplied) and if you fancy a change wander along to the Atlantic pool with its bar and snacks available most of the day till 7. Alternatively spend some time at the Hotel outdoor pool with its restaurant or snacks or take the free lift down to Caniço a restaurant in the rocks for lunch or supper , looking out over the beautiful Prainha beach ( 5 mins from house ) .
The hotel also has an spa, and treatment centre at additional cost if that is what you fancy
Prainha has its own supermarket 2 mins walk from the villa where all essentials can be bought plus fresh bread baked daily, right next door to a pizza pasta restaurant that does take away.
If you venture further a field Alvor can be reached by a 30 minute walk along the beach or 5 minute taxi. This is a lovely fishing village on the Avor estuary which offers everything you need such as banks, restaurants, chemists shops etc and where trips and kite surfing and other excursions can be booked. sabres, lagos, silves, monchique and caveiro are all less then 40 mons drive.
10 minutes East takes you to Praia de Rocha and Portimao with its big shopping centres and Marinas , and 15 minutes drive West takes you to the fabulous town of Lagos with watermarks such as Slide and Splash and the beautiful town itself.
Casa Barlavento is ideally placed, Prainha Village ( as opposed to Prainha Clube which is the hotel ) is a mix of old and new houses , (ours is a 2008 house so very modern, ), owned mainly by wealthy Portuguese people from Lisbon , but also has a lot of Irish owners. It is truly a mix of nationalities who visit which only make the whole place more enjoyable .Casa Barlavento is in a very quiet part of the Prainha Complex , next to the Pestana Praia Alvor hotel tennis courts, and 10 minute drive from three different golf courses including the Famous Henry Cotton course at Penina. The villa a very private garden surrounded by trees with views to the sea. The garden with its own pool is kitted out with loungers and furniture for relaxing with a lawned area for kids to play plus an upstairs sun terrace with additional furniture and awning with fabulous sea views. Parking is available outside the house which is accessed via a security gate.
The house itself has a ground floor twin room with double doors to the South facing garden, with two brand new awnings so lots of shade if needed plus a downstairs shower room, kitchen , and open plan sitting dining room with 3 sets of double doors to the Garden. In 2023 we have put all new beds and mattresses plus a new big smart TV with access to Netflix
Upstairs are a twin room and a king with doors opening onto the large sun terrace with views through the trees to the sea.the sun terrace has ample room for loungers , dining table and sofas. There is also a bathroom with twin sinks and a shower over to this floor , plus a sliding door at the top of the stairs to keep the children safe.
The house has the benefit of fantastic air con to all 3 bed rooms plus the sitting room which also acts as heating in the winter ( not many houses in Prainha have this ) .
Guests will be met by our housekeeper if they arrive in normal hours shown around the house, given beach towels and shown how to use the wifi, espresso machine, gas barbecue, and given wrist bands to access the Prainha facilities such as the Atlantic pool and the lift down to Prainha beach. Our housekeeper is also happy to do a mid holiday clean and change beds if required, and this can be organised directly with her on arrival.
Finally we can recommend A22 who do airport transfers for 55 - 75 euros for 1-9 people, and also Uber in and around Alvor
Restaurants - Atlantida,, O Luis, Sol and Sombre all fantastic and from 5 -10 mins walk away or in alvor itself The Green door and Arco de Velha amongst others which you can uber or go via the board walk ( 25min lovely walk!). Snacks at Caniço bar and Atlantic pool great for lThe hotel facilities are only available in season ( April to October) although tennis and football can be hired during working hours all year round . Lunch ( omelettes, crepes, Burgers , fish etc)
